About ADRD Louisiana

Our Mission — Advancing Care
Across Louisiana

ADRD Louisiana was founded to address the growing burden of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in our state — through education, advocacy, research, and compassionate support for patients and families.

Who We Are

A Louisiana Organization Built for Louisiana

Louisiana has one of the highest Alzheimer's prevalence rates in the United States — 12.4% — driven by high rates of vascular disease, diabetes, and health disparities across our communities. ADRD Louisiana was created to meet this challenge with specialized, locally-focused expertise.

Education

We provide evidence-based public education on dementia prevention, recognition, and care — through community events, online resources, and partnerships with healthcare providers across Louisiana.

Support

We connect patients, families, and caregivers with the resources, specialists, and support communities they need — navigating a healthcare system that can be difficult to navigate alone.

Research

We advance clinical research and advocate for Louisiana's participation in national trials. Early detection and disease-modifying therapies represent a transformative opportunity for our patients.

Our Framework

The Three-Pillar Approach

Our clinical framework, developed in collaboration with leading neurologists and dementia specialists, organizes our work around three interconnected pillars — reflecting the full continuum of dementia care.

01

Prevention

Up to 40% of dementia cases are potentially preventable. We focus on modifiable risk factors, lifestyle interventions, and public health education — with special attention to Louisiana's unique risk profile.

02

Diagnosis

Earlier diagnosis equals more options. We promote cognitive screening, specialist referrals, and access to biomarker-based diagnostics that can identify Alzheimer's years before symptoms appear.

03

Treatment

The treatment landscape is changing rapidly. We help patients and families understand and access the full spectrum — from symptomatic care to FDA-approved disease-modifying therapies and clinical trials.

Why Louisiana

Louisiana's Unique Dementia Challenge

Louisiana's high rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and health disparities across racial and economic lines create an outsized dementia burden that requires a locally-focused response.

Get Involved
  • 12.4% Prevalence Rate

Louisiana ranks among the top five states nationally for Alzheimer's prevalence — driven by an aging population and high vascular risk factors.

  • Rural Access Gaps

Many Louisiana parishes lack access to neurologists or memory specialists. Telehealth and community-based programs are critical to bridging this gap.

  • Health Disparities

Black Americans in Louisiana face twice the dementia risk of white Americans, driven by higher rates of hypertension, diabetes, and reduced healthcare access. Addressing these disparities is a core focus.
